THIS IS THE SOLAR PANEL I USED FOR MY 1000km+ HIKE – Test and review

One subscriber asked if I could do a review on the XTORM SOLARBOOSTER 21 WATTS PANEL that I used for my adventure, I also did mention that I would do a separate review of it so by those two statements combined here we are. : )

Truth is I don’t know anything about solar panels, I’m just happy that it worked out the way it supposed to!

Hey 🙂 I have a question! Backpacking soon and I ran into this solar panel after searching google. Anyhow, how long does it take to recharge your phone full in direct sunlight (and which phone)? 🙂 Thanks!

    Which iPhone do you have?
Asking cause I have a new iPhone and couldn’t get it charged in a friends solar panel

Looks like a great portable solar panel. I have a Ravpower 24W folding solar panel that works well. Yours looks to be more flexible and has the added benefit of having the charge indicator built in. That being said, I think that I paid about half as much as the one you show here costs. Although, yours may be lighter and/or more efficient, I don’t know much about solar panels either lol. Thanks for sharing.

    What shorts are those, legend?

  11. @HighlandWoodsman on December 16, 2024 at 7:54 pm

Can I ask what your normal amps were on an ideal day or maximum amps you managed to reach? Reason I ask is I bought one of these but doesn’t seem to be able to go above 2.0. Thanks.

Interesting! I’ve been wondering how effective these really are 🙂

Good video. When measuring power, do you find that when it is charging and you cover the panel with your hand for a few seconds and then take it off, it does not go back to the charging power it was before you covered it?

  14. @Just4Gordon on December 16, 2024 at 7:59 pm

Most solar panels will charge almost all power banks( except the cheap panels from China). It’s probably more important to know if your panel will have the “Restore” circuitry to keep powering every time you pass through a cloudy area.

did you know if you can charge you garmin GPS from the solar panel?

  16. @mikesquattincassanova4489 on December 16, 2024 at 8:06 pm

You do a review without using actual numbers? Or even plugging in the device? Or even dong a time lapse? Come on

I have an XTorm power bank (10,000amp), it’s pretty decent, robust; I’ve been thinking about getting a solar panel charger, this looks like a good option.

  18. @jaymichaelson5811 on December 16, 2024 at 8:11 pm

Always thought about getting a solar panel, at least for emergencies. Great heads up on the power pack compatibility. I didn’t really think of that. What’s cooking on the grill? Peace

Just bough it and have to say it is not good combination with XTORM 20 000 mAh powerbank which is too long and doesn’t fit into pocket on the back of the charger so combine it with shorter 10 000mAh powerbank from XTROM which is shorter and will fit better into pocket with cabel pluged into solar charger.
Dimensions of pocket on the back of solar charger fits better to thinner powerbanks around 15 mm and length max to 160 mm with cabel plugged in.
Also the port protective rubber cover opens the way it will soon be torn if frequently used and it somehow doesn’t fit well in pocket when you charging powerbank but for shorter 10k mAh battery from XTORM should be fine cause it is only 114 mm in length. Thanks for your review of product. It was very helpfull to me. I am planning to test solar charging in winter condition so I am interested what will be the results on winter sun which is on low trajectory during the day.

You say it is light weight. How much is that? Did you weigh it?

  22. @JS-nh3jr on December 16, 2024 at 8:19 pm

Hej Ted! Thanks again for a good video. I was wondering if 20-30 kg would be too much for the keb 52 Backpack? What are your thoughts and experiences?

    best regards Jacob.

  24. @Tod_oMal on December 16, 2024 at 8:29 pm

Hi, thanks for the review, short question, do you use it to charge only phones? Or does it deliver enough energy to charge, in a day, a battery pack to charge an average laptop for example?

  25. @leugim-h2u on December 16, 2024 at 8:33 pm

What am I looking for to see if this solar panel can charge my power bank?
